The fun is just beginning

Round 1 is winding down as a few remaining snow bands rotate and push up from the south Sunday evening. Not much snow up in The Couve today as the dry arctic air funneling through the Gorge pulled a PacMan and ate up a lot of the moisture. I did cuss at the radar views a few times today but the 2-6" forecast (from friday) worked out well south of Portland where there wasn't much PacMan effect.

As I check the latest weather models tonight, we're at a chilly 23 degrees with a dewpoint of 15. If you have a home weather sensor that shows dewpoint, under calm conditions it's a pretty good gauge for what the potential low temperature is in this weather pattern. The dewpoint at TeagueCast Weather Ctr is currently 15. For the next 48 hours the mains story is the arctic air continuing to stream into the region and deepen.

The next storm looks to be starting later on Wednesday and I'll wait for a few more model runs before making a snowfall guesstimate. The next storm paves the way for a follow up arctic blast to drop down from the north on thursday which would bring more snow showers along with it. That batch of cold air looks to be just a bit colder (as if it matters when it's this cold) than the current set up. So very cold again for friday and saturday and by sunday we could be looking at a transtion storm which would be a snow/sleet/freezing rain deal. In other words, a mess.

More details to follow in the coming days, time to sell some tire chains!
