Quick Weather Update - sort of

Since I know it's really hard to find a weather forecast these days............

As mentioned in the TeagueCast a few days ago computer weather models are often wrong in trying to scour out low level arctic air too quickly. Even though we had the typical snow to sleet to freezing rain progression over the last 24 hours there is a major difference on where we go from here compared to the 2004 early January ice storm (and compared to what normally happens) - where once the freezing rain finally ended we were done with frozen precip.

Yesterday's low pressure system stayed well south of Portland, meaning all we got was a very whimpy erosion of the depth cold air over our area and the flow pattern was not reversed. Basically that means the set up that brought snow is pretty much still in tact: Cold air over us and really cold air to the east.

With leftover showers and another low approaching now we do the progression in reverse: freezing drizzle, back to sleet and back to snow over the next 12-24 hours. I see the NWS is now calling for 2-4" of snow on Monday (plus some snow later today) and beyond that a system carrying a lot of precip is targeting us for mid-week. Yikes!

Time for me to get back to work and I'll take a closer look at things tonight. For the record I hope we completely run out of chains and things somehow moderate for Christmas time.
