My Super Fun Monday.....don't be too jealous

So this week started out on Monday with 547 phone calls (only a slight exaggeration) by my Recovery Team, as I'm now going to collectively call my Ob/Gyn, General/Breast Surgeon, Oncologist, Plastic Surgeon, Radiologist, and their various nurses and schedulers. These phone calls were probably purposed to schedule out the next steps needed to get my treatment going, but they really only seemed to confuse, sadden and annoy me. Things such as:

-by having the PET scan Friday morning (Black Friday) at 7:45am (yikes-too early, especially when Hubby usually heads out shopping) in Portland (seriously?), my diet beginning at noon on Thursday (Thanksgiving) had to be low carb (no potatoes, rolls, sweet potatoes), no sugar (ie, pumpkin pie), and high protein (turkey is great, as long as you're not a vegetarian which I am).

-I had a surgery that week, but they needed to schedule another one. Can't they both happen at the same time? No, they would be done at 2 different places in the hospital

-I have 3 appointments on 3 different days the following week, one of which was with the Oncologist and "if there's time, a chemo treatment." Oh sure, on the way out we might be able to squeeze in shooting some poison into your body....if you're not in too much of a hurry. This one didn't bother me too badly, I want to get this going as soon as possible, but should I plan for the treatment that day or not?

Among these challenges, Teague was also informed this day that the hospital and all of the groups that employ my Recovery Team would no longer be honoring our insurance company, Aetna, beginning January 1st as part of their network. Are you kidding me? Is this because we'd already met our deductible when Presley was born and we were getting a bunch of things covered completely from this? So we either pick an entire new Recovery Team (of which I'm relying heavily on right now and am trusting completely), or pay an exorbitant deductible by staying with these people and going out of the network with only 40% coverage or so. Luckily we have a month to get this figures out. As if Teague needed this extra stress right now. The one thing I had been feeling okay about was that this thing wouldn't put us in the poor house.

At the end of the very long day, it was decided that I would have a surgery Wednesday, the PET scan was moved from Friday (my Thanksgiving was back!) and appointments Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the following week. So far.

The surgery will be to 1) put my port in which was first going to be in my arm, but in order to combine the surgeries, will now go in my chest and 2) to take out my sentinal node and do a biopsy to see if the cancer has spread to any lymph nodes. I get to be knocked out (Praise the Lord!), but I have a weight restriction of 5lbs until Sunday which includes Presley :( An inconvenience, but at least I can get a surgery under my belt.

The best part of this day was getting to join up with some great ladies at a Celebration of Friendship party thrown by a friend. A fun evening of fellowship, appetizers and desserts was exactly what I needed!
