The question really is 'Why NOT me?'

When hearing a frightening diagnosis (like breast cancer, as a random example), a patient can rack her brain with the question of "Why me???" I've never smoked anything. I'm a vegetarian. I rarely consume alcohol. I regularly work out. How can the body I've worked so hard to preserve betray me like this?

Now I won't pretend that these thoughts didn't cloud my head on more than one occasion, but I can truthfully report that these thoughts were brief. Not only is it pointless to question why I was selected for this hurdle (I'm a firm believer in God and His master plans), but I always came to the same conclusion: why NOT me? Am I this awesome person that does everything right? Do I not sin on a daily basis? Am I better than everyone else? Do I deserve to skate through life without any hardships? Have I earned a free pass on struggles? I think we all know the answers to these questions.

We all fall short in God's glory and it's by His grace that we receive any blessings....not by anything we've done. Good or bad. He never said this life would be easy or free from big challenges, only that everything we go through will all be worth it. This is my battle (which will be over very soon!) and I look at it as a rite of passage, showing God I can handle things just like He knew I could.

Next time you are down on life and think "Why me?", you have an opportunity to see the situation from a different perspective. I hope you accept the challenge and keep your head up; you've got someone up there that knows you'll pull through and is totally rooting for you :)
