I didn't want to be THAT cliche of the mom that just "cannot WAIT for the kids to start school!" I'm incredibly sentimental and am constantly trying to squeeze as many memories (especially summer memories) out as possible. As August drew to a close, I was thinking about that last week before school starts. How could I make this final week together with the kids count?
As a child, my family always went camping the week before labor day and I have countless memories of those trips with my extended family. I loved always having a plan and getting home sunburned at 5pm on Labor Day with hours of unpacking and prepping for the first day of school ahead of me.
We do not have any of those such traditions, but I envisioned taking a more relaxed approach to this last week and maybe sprinkling in some extra treats or excursion to end on a high note from vacation. This did not happen.
The kids were uncontrollably bossy, mouthy and defiant. So much so that any extra plans I was trying to fit in were easily discarded. It's almost like they knew it was the last week as well and did not want any more quality time with me. Oh well, at least I was able to deepen my summer tan.
That being said, here are some pics from the 1st day of school. Don't let the angelic smiles fool you......they knew they had new teachers to impress and had left all the attitude in my lap the previous week. I do admit blinking back tears while dropping Maddox off at his classroom tho.
