Giving Back on Thanksgiving

So this Thanksgiving I participated in a ministry for the 2nd time that a group of people from my church started years ago.  Throughout the year, this family collects toiletries, tarps, hats, scarves, gloves, & small snack packs and takes to the streets of downtown Portland and the women's shelter run by the Salvation Army to simply be the hands and feet of Jesus and bless other people with whatever they needed.  Dylan joined me again.  I brought both boys with me last year, but Maddox's service is conditional: since I couldn't guarantee there would be any 'friends' attending, he opted to stay home with dad and sis.

We break out into 3 different groups, a Gatorade-sized jug of hot cocoa in each group, and countless suitcases and bags we set out.  We always stop by a small shelter just inside what Dylan calls China City where we find a good amount of people all too happy to receive dry socks and maybe a Bible.  This event fills my heart and the only way to be filled more with joy is seeing my precious, tender-hearted Dylan enjoying the service as well.

On the way home I asked if he thought he might come and do this again next year or stay home with the rest of the kids.  His response?  "I want to do this EVERY year!!!"  Bless you, sweet child.
