Christmas Meltdown

Well THAT didn't take long!!!!

It's interesting what a $750/mo. bill for daycare will get you......yes, after 5 days, Maddox is sick. How much would I have to pay per month to keep him healthy? Oh, yeah, that daycare does not exist. Not only was Maddox under the weather (not super ill, but cranky and a few cold-like symptoms) all weekend, but he was extra defiant in minding house rules. Good fun for Mom and Dad.

Here's a little taste of my morning fun: Maddox was whining pathetically and incessantly (aren't I such a sweet empathetic Mommy?), but I coaxed him downstairs by letting him know it was time to feed kitty. That got him back into a normal mood (as he loves this chore and takes great pride upon accomplishing), but he was easily distracted during the process. We were running late, so I kept doing my morning tasks while he spilled kitty food on the floor and I patiently asked him to pick up the pieces and put them in her dish as I continued to run around getting breakfast. Distraction began again and the next time I checked on him to see how many pieces of food still remained on the floor, he dumped a jar of dry mustard on the floor. I flipped and yanked him up and told him "no" and put him on the couch and told him to stay there. He started bawling and I let him know how we feel about the times he pulls that stunt (pulled many, many times already) and how it's never OK to dump spices on the floor. I turned off the TV in punishment and he cried for a long time while I cleaned up all the messes (kitty food and spilled powder) making us even later. I asked him how he was feeling about what had just happened (illiciting the appropriate "I'm sorry" hug) and we were back to normal. He got distracted again during the "coat and shoes" task w/ his Spiderman until I told him I was leaving. No response, so I started picking up all 5 bags I seem to leave the house with every morning and walk out the door. He started to cry (dramatically) again and I told him to get his things if he wanted to come.

Everything went smoothly all through the drive to school and he was in a good mood while getting out of the car and holding my hand while walking in. Once we checked in, he started to take off his coat and was walking around the room, not concerned about where I was at all. Breakfast was close, so a teacher was helping him wash his hands while I went over to say goodbye. He was totally fine and I walked out of the room, but peeked at him through the cubbies. After a minute or so, he got boo-boo lip and most likely realized I was gone. I'm sure he was going to be fine and I'm really happy how he seems to be getting the hang of this "school" dropoff thing. Another positive part: I haven't got a call yet asking me to pick him up for being sick!

1st of all- I think the kiddo has to have a fever and/or diarrhea to be worthy of a pick-up phone call... atleast that's what I've been told, I don't actually "know" per se.
2nd of all- I am really proud of how good he's doing with daycare, rough at times, but truly a success in my book.
3rd and lastly- are you really surprised he's sick at all? It's DAYCARE!??? Sip-n-Play used to get Coopy sick, let alone full on daycare!

Looking forward to Friday-
