To Snow or Not to Snow?

Back on February 1st I mentioned the possibility for some snow by mid month and whatdayaknow - some mutant sized snowflakes showed up for a few hours this week. These bad boys were nice and meaty - like burger patties. OK, maybe not BK Whopper patties or Carl’s Junior $6 burger size, but like Happy Meal size. The snowfall was short lived in most areas but now that the winter is almost over naturally it might be time for a more serious dose of cold and snow. TeagueCast time!

Weather models have had a tough (as in less accurate than the Farmer’s Almanac and Ms. Cleo) winter to this point but there is growing consensus for a late season surprise from Old Man Winter. Prospects look reasonably good for an Arctic Express from the north with things kicking off around next Tuesday and the chance for several days of snow showers and well below normal temperatures. Is that vague enough?

It’s too late in the season for any really cold weather, but if things hit as currently advertised the cold snap for the time of year would actually be semi-historic. So a cold spell next week is pretty likely, but the snow, as usual, is the wildcard. As of Friday night, weather models suggest snow showers from late Tuesday night on through at least Thursday. If the arctic front is strong enough, there will likely be an area of more concentrated snow somewhere on Wednesday.

If we do get some accumulating snow the low temperatures will be very cold for a couple days and perhaps be close to all-time records. I actually haven’t even looked up what the record low temperatures are in that timeframe but it sounds really impressive to make statements like that, right?

Maybe by later in the weekend I will take a more specific stab at a snow prediction.
