So I had another procedure last week. Wait a minute, aren't I supposed to be done by now?? Yeah, supposedly. I was at my Plastic Surgeon's office for a routine follow-up from my December surgery and during his exam he decided that he needed to do a "lift" on one of my implants. What?!! I'm supposed to be done with surgeries!
This was my opportunity to let him know that starting March 1, our health insurance will be returning to Aetna insurance. If you will recall from last year, PeaceHealth SW Medical does not include Aetna in their 'network' so our coverage will be even worse than standard. Although Teague's company assures him they will make up the difference, I can't help but be skeptical. We still will have to put up the payment first and hope that the company will reimburse us. This offer isn't available for all of the employees, either, just a side deal for Teague. Seems fishy, but other than transferring all my records to other doctors (not a pleasant option), we'll have to trust this plan.
After hearing of the deadline, Dr. Gabriel stated that we'd need to get this procedure done quickly. "Next Thursday!" he said with conviction. This guy schedules months in advance so I was lucky to even get in before the March 1st deadline. Still, I croaked "Valentine's Day?" "Oh, is it Valentine's Day? (sorry Mrs. Gabriel that your husband hasn't shopped for you yet.) You got a hot date?" "Um, just my dad." I said, glumly. My dad and I had made plan to go to IKEA to help furnish his new house. At the very least, I was having yet ANOTHER surgery :(
I also had to ask my in-laws to watch the 3 children during their Valentine's Day plans which made me feel awful. They had planned on going to lunch at 2pm and my surgery was going right through that. Of course, they were super accommodating and said they had no problem rescheduling for another day, but I wish these impositions on them would stop already!
Well, my dad and I decided to go shopping another day so I just had a lazy morning with the children and then headed off to the hospital. Oh, did I mention I had to fast and didn't check in until 1:15pm??!!! Needless to say I was starving and fussy by the time I got there.
Even though I was only having local anesthesia, I felt like I was knocked unconscious just the same. Really, what is the difference?
So the procedure went fine and I made it home at 6pm, but the oxy they gave me (w/o any anti-nausea meds) made me crazy nauseous so I couldn't stand up for very long periods of time. It was all I could do after a nap to give Presley a bath and try and eat a small portion of food so I could take my vitamins for the day. Happy Valentine's Day Teague :)
The best part of my day was the view and fragrance of the 3 bouquets of flowers from the Rakoz's....one vase of red roses and star gazer lilies (from Teague), a dozen red roses (from Teague), and a beautiful arrangement of roses, lilies, daisies and other flowers I don't know the names of (from my mother-in-law and father-in-law). Flowers seem to lift my spirits every time. Luckily, my husband is aware of this.
I basically have a wound/scab, but no special recovery procedures. I can only pray this is truly my last surgery on this. Honestly, how am I supposed to get past this whole cancer thing if I keep having these appointments and surgeries? Enough already!!

Oh, sister. I can't believe how long your cancer journey has been. I'm so glad it's finally over!
