Christmas Meltdown

Not at bad as I thought!

OK, so it's taken a month longer than I normally take each year, but I'm finally disgusted enough with myself to ramp up my workouts.  Beginning the 1st of the year, I started working out a few times a week, but I was kind of easing into it, since I'm still tender in my torso from my last surgery.  I was trying to figure out a good time to get my exercise in with the current schedule I've got and I just hadn't found that magical time period.  For the month of January, I decided to take advantage of the Wii and was regularly doing a Gold's Gym Cardio workout.  It was actually really fun and although I've had it for at least 4 years, this month was the first time it's been used.  It was cardio boxing and I liked how it tracked my workouts, had the various levels, and how I earned "cash" to "buy" myself new outfits at the pro shop.  Cute.  Despite doing this 3 times a week, in the back of my mind I knew this wasn't toning up things like I wanted.  It was time for a kick in the tushie.

It didn't help that in the past week I talked to multiple people that went to the gym everyday.  I hadn't been to the gym in months.  Not by desire, but the fact that I don't want to pay for the kids to go into the childcare; that being my biggest hurdle getting in there.  I have a fabulous rate of $49 per year to all 24 Hour Fitness Sport Clubs.  Honestly, even if I went the entire year without going to the gym, I will always pay this annual fee at this great price.  I checked into how much it would be for childcare.  Basically, each child is $5 for 2 hours or a $19.99 monthly fee.  I was considering this for a few months, but if I'm paying a monthly fee I want to get the most out of it and I would only have just Presley while Dylan is in preschool.  As I looked at my February schedule, I just didn't know how often I could make it.  These are the types of excuses that prevent people from getting their workouts in.  It was time for a kick in the tushie.

Right before Christmas I was getting up in the morning and jogged or walked around my neighborhood.  I usually don't do this in the winter because it's dark, but this year I wasn't too freaked out (and I had my pepper spray).  I stopped because of my surgery and when I was released to resume, the weather was under 20 degrees.  That was colder than I was willing to endure.  It was time for a kick in the tushie.

Yes we still have our treadmill, but I have reached my boredom limit of staring at the garage wall during the treadmill workouts so I have finally agreed with Teague on selling it (let me know if you're interested!).  I had now talked myself out of working out on our treadmill.  It was time for a kick in the tushie.

Beginning last Monday, I got up every day at 5:20am and drove to the gym.  I had researched body conditioning regimens and did 35-45 minutes of weights and 30 minutes of cardio each morning.  Is it hard to get out of bed at that time?  1,000 times yes!  Is my body currently screaming in incredible soreness at this very moment?  Absolutely!  Did this commitment require sacrifice of sleep, preparation and dedication?  Without a doubt.  Am I going to do it again next week?  Sure am!

I'd love to keep this up until Spring Break, but I don't know that I will.  Once the weather gets warmer, I plan on getting the kids outside with me.  This will allow flexibility of when I'm working out and Presley has a new stroller she loves riding in.  I had recently read that a 1 hour workout is a mere 4% of your day.  It's important to me and I WILL make time for it!
