Hoping for Justice

So last Wednesday brought a little crazy action to the neighborhood for sure. I was working on the computer in my bedroom when I heard deep voices that did not sound like the cartoons the boys were watching in the family room. I muted my TV and listened to the voices again which said, “This is the Vancouver Police! Come out with your hands up!” Of course I went scrambling off the bed and headed for the kitchen to figure out where the commotion was coming from. Naturally I thought of Harlan, our crazy neighbor, and wondered what he was up to this time. Oddly enough the action wasn’t about Harlan as I noticed activity outside at the back corner of the property in the adjacent neighborhood.
There was an armored Vancouver Police car and another armored sheriff's vehicle along with a few cop cars. There were cops (SWAT) swarming the neighbors house. What was going on?? See we know this family. Only a little. There are 5 kids in the family, 2 boys of which were on Maddox's baseball team last spring. Our boys love playing with them. The parents are nice as we talked briefly with them during games and practices. The Dad is a cop so my head was swarming with thoughts of what might be going on. I see him coming out of the house with a puzzled expression on? Had he received a threat from someone? I saw 4 SWAT guys escort a daughter out of the home and she was crying. Was there a hostage inside? I called Teague and told him to get home immediately as he loves this kind of stuff and we enjoy creating scenarios with picqued curiosity. While on the phone I paced around the house, as I always seem to, and noticed 4-5 additional police vehicles parked in the front of the house. The boys kept bouncing around me asking if the cops were there to arrest us or if Tristan and Jordan's house was going to explode. It was adorable. I just wanted to know why so many people were there. (and so many guns!)...because Chris was a cop?

Here is a pic of one of the cops standing in the yard of the vacant house next door. Can you see him with his 2 guns under the deck?  I took this photo while inside my house which doesn't convey just how close this guy was. The boys continued to pepper me with questions of if we were going to be arrested. Dylan felt the need to assemble a rifle with his blocks and point it outside to 'help'. I had to repeatedly remind him that the po-po wasn't going to appreciate having a gun pointed at them, fake or otherwise.
Eventually everyone went home. We still had no idea what was going on. Later we saw a news crew hanging around, but it wasn't until I posted this pic on Facebook that our inquiries got some answers, thanks to the neighbors scurrying around for details.
I was very saddened to hear this. His boys just adore him and if it's not true, his life is ruined for nothing. At this point I'm just praying that the truth comes out regardless of what that is.
