Teacher Appreciation Week

So as VP of the PTA, I've decided to take this project on and I aimed pretty high.  I feel it's important to show gratitude for the staff of our children....I imagine this stems from attending a teacher's college and having a number of friends that are teachers.  Whatever the reason, I wanted to set a standard at Marrion that the teachers can feel blessed by.

In years past at Marrion, Teacher Appreciation Week consisted of a potluck on Wednesday afternoon, supplied mainly by parents and each teacher receiving a $5 Starbucks giftcard.  That's it.  Worth dealing with our cranky children on a less than adequate salary?  I didn't think so either.

So, I recruited a committee, sent out a flyer to the parents asking for help and am happy to report the following has been set for the staff to receive the following this week:

We love mornings at Marrion Monday: the Staff Room has been decorated and muffins, bagels, coffee, fruit and all their accompaniments awaited everyone.  There is also a poster listing all parents that are helping this week so teachers can see who has pitched in.  There are a few take-away favors as well.

Sweet Treat Tuesday: parents have committed to sending treats in for the staff to enjoy.  More take-away favors have been placed in the Staff Room as well.

Parent Provided Potluck: parents have commited to providing dishes for lunch during the staff meeting.  More take-away favors are present.

Finger Food Thursday: there will be appetizers and finger foods (veggies, fruits, crackers, cheeses) to snack on during the day along with take-away favors.

Fiesta Friday: our PTA Secretary secured donated food from a nearby Muchas Gracias for lunch with more take-aways.  We will also have 3 gift baskets to raffle off (school supply basket, spa/pampering basket, and a Trader Joe's goodie basket).  At the beginning of the week, each lead teacher received a giftcard voucher to redeem in the main office.  At that time, the teacher can pick a giftcard (denomination and locations vary) from the Giftcard Bouquet as a final 'thank you.'

Better?  I think so!  Our parents have been great about offering to provide food and sending in giftcards so we only had to buy 8 out of 27 giftcards.  Awesome!

It's only Monday and everything has worked out well so far.  I have received many positive responses from the teachers and hope this will bring the staff and PTA closer together.

Is it too early to start planning for next year???
