HAPPY 2020!!! This year is starting off to be very busy with extra-curriculars. Here's what we've been up to!
The boys rang in the New Year with Ayden and the rest of the Real Life youth group at the Winterhawk's game.
Teague and I sneaked away to meet our besties for a few beers at the local bottle shop.
A dear friend invited the family over for a Game Night with her clan during Christmas Break. She lives just far enough away that I don't see her very often during the school year; however, our kids get along so well that we spend a good chunk of summer activities together.
The face I get when he secures jersey #20 (Gordon Hayward) on the A team at school.
Monthly Hangtime with Dylan found us at the HUB Brewery for a late lunch.
This is where I'm spending a lot of hours this month (& next): helping coach the Shahala Middle School Dance Team.
Presley joins me at dance practice often. The girls love her and say that Coach Presley is the best coach ever. She started off just sitting at a table reading or doing art projects, but has learned some of the dance parts & joins in the formations.
Monthly Hangtime with Presley found us at Black Rock doing some coloring. In true Presley fashion, she saw a girl of similar age nearby and shared her supplies with her new friend.
With the holiday feasting, Presley and I have made a commitment to do more exercise on the rowing machine.
As puberty rears its ugly head, Dylan will admit that a peel-off face mask is a small consolation
This month was the last of the Winter Warmups offered for Dylan's baseball team. He'll be starting the season in March. I will miss watching practice from a covered indoor facility.
After 2 weeks of practice, the Wy'east Warriors jumped into the season. The first game was against a bunch of Maddox's former baseball teammates. Some friendly trash-talking brought out the competition in this game.
Tragically, a classmate and friend of Maddox was killed in an automobile accident. This 8th grade student was well-liked by many and the basketball team honored him with posters, prayers, and a game dedication. This was a very sad time for the school.
Here's a pic of us at niece/cousin Kaitlyn's 14th birthday party.
Surprisingly, Dylan is a rock star in Geography. So much so that he earned a perfect score in his classroom assessment which won him a spot at the Geo Bee Semi-Finals. He competed against 10 (or so) other top students in the school (pictured below) and made his way into the Finals. He competed against only 1 other student who has won this contest for the last 2 years. Unfortunately, the other student (an 8th grade gifted student) prevailed in this head-to-head battle and would continue on trying for the state competition. Dylan wasn't happy to be knocked out and said that although he answered incorrectly, he actually knew the answer. Regardless of outcome, I am so thrilled for all of his success with this contest & really loved watching this new talent emerge.
I came back from the restroom to find my favorite sweet 6th grade student had left me a Friday treat.
Mt View (the kids' future high school) invited the basketball team (pictured above) to a home game. They were treated to pizza and soda while they watched how a Varsity team looks.
We all took this opportunity to watch the game (from a different section, of course!) and had a great time. Fingers crossed the boys will have a spot on this team someday. It was Senior Night and as the parents of the senior players came onto the court I made Dylan promise that I'd have a moment like this with him someday.
The following day Presley and I were back up at the high school for her to enjoy a Dance Clinic set up by the Mt View Dance Team. For 3 hours she learned 2 dances that she will showcase at an upcoming dance competition (that my own dance team will be competing in). She was so adorable and I know she's excited to perform in front of my squad at the competition next month.
See ya!
