May 2020

Happy May everyone!  We are still in COVID-19 Lockdown so there really isn't much to report, but this is how we're spending our time.

Every weekday Teague and I take a 3.75 mile walk.  Most days we walk up to the neighborhood ballpark, which happens to be David Douglas.  I guess we need to be more careful of other inhabitants during our walk!

The boys joined the Youth Group at a nearby church for the last couple of years.  Due to the shutdown, all the snacks this Youth Group has stored were coming upon their expiration dates.  As a result, one of the Youth Group Leaders dropped off a bag filled with treats!  We used this for our weekly Movie Night.

The stay-at-home order was the kick-in-the-pants we needed to paint a few rooms in the house.  Bye-bye to the dated wall texture.  There was so much paint left over, we also refreshed the master bedroom.  We're so happy with the results!

Another project I did was to go through clothes to be donated.  Presley saw this sweatsuit and asked if she could have it.  Granted it's a bit big for her, but she's not too far off from this fitting.  Sad!

Presley's school was doing their Raven Parade through the neighborhood.  Because she is on a boundary exception, there was zero chance she would get to see the parade, as we live over 5 miles away.  So, we jumped in the car and staked a spot near a Black Rock Coffee Bar, grabbed a slushy beverage and waited for the show.  We were so excited to see a lot of other families lined up on the same street.

We celebrated Cinco de Mayo with nachos and margaritas.  Ole!

McMenamins finally opened up their take-out business and are selling their growler fills for $12.  Considering a 16oz beer normally costs around $6, these 64oz growlers are a steal.  Ruby Ale for me and Hammerhead for Teague.

They were perfect on the super warm days we saw a couple of times this month.

Here's a pic of me and my babies on Mother's Day.  I'd like to have a similar pic every year as well as Teague and the kids every Father's Day.  I sure wish I had started this tradition 14 years ago....

Here's some of my favorite things given by my favorite person.

Maddox bought me some great gifts as well.  I kept telling him I didn't need him spending his money, but he was insistent.  I love this boy!

One Movie Night found the girls separated from the boys.  They chose to watch the latest "Star Wars" (yuk!) while Presley and I watched some super sad movie ("A Dog's Journey") about a dog that keeps getting reincarnated....after he repeatedly dies.  This is me and Presley sobbing at the end.  Why 2 crybabies watched this particular film still does not make sense to me.

I made these amazing cookies and they were so fantastic.  Yes, those are golden oreos inside sprinkle cookies.  Delish!

The picture below was a "AHA" moment where I realized I’m focusing a little too much on the academics portion of distance learning these days, rather than the more domestic tasks that I should be imparting on my kids. Here’s my Mom Fail of the day:
Maddox runs in the room so excited “Mom! I just found a recipe for brownies I can make that don’t need a box!”
“Ummm......you mean from scratch...??” (Blank look on his face forces me to explain the term ‘from scratch’). “You can also bake a cake without a box too.” His mind was completely blown! His brownies from scratch were amazing.

This rapidly growing girl will still fall asleep on her gigantic teddy bear.

I received this emailed photo from Grandma.  She and Presley had a girl's day complete with frothy beverages.

Grandma sent home some grisly tattoos that Presley and Dylan had a lot of fun with.

One week Maddox had some challenging Algebra assignments that he asked for help on (me???  yikes!).  Because he hardly ever asks for help (although I'm always ready to lend a hand), I didn't want to miss this quality time, even if it meant trying to learn these concepts that I probably didn't learn the first time around.  These quadratic equation graphs took up 3-4 hours this week, but we can now solve these problems with confidence.

I got a chance to meet up with some dear and badly missed friends at a park one night.  These ladies are so much fun and made me long for the days we can meet on a regular basis.  Hopefully soon???

Dylan has some science labs coming up so the science teachers set up a drive-by supply pickup for his assignments. I was able to get a cute pic with his science teacher, Ms. LeBlanc.  She's been very good to Dylan this year and one of the reasons I'm so glad I moved him to my school.

Teague's family decided to throw a friendly wager of $10 per family for the 40th season of "Survivor," a show we all watch faithfully.  It is the season of champions and we all randomly drew 5 contestants in hopes of one of contestants winning the title of "Survivor."  Teague and I won!  Rhacelle and Briar dropped off our winnings including a cute themed treat bag.

During our lunchtime the kids and I like to watch TV.  Since we can't seem to agree on a show we can all enjoy, we have re-discovered an appreciation for "Jeopardy."  After about a week of watching the quiz show, I received this private message from Presley.

That is all we were up to this month.  I'm hopeful that June will bring some photos of outings.  We are all so ready for that!

Stay healthy out there!
